The Bible and Contemporary Culture
What does the Bible have to say to people today?
Join Pastor Stephanie and Martyn Nickel in a study of Gerd Theissen’s provocative book The Bible and Contemporary Culture. We will look at the ways that Bible study is relevant to our contemporary experience. Each week we will focus on different sections of the new book by this well-regarded New Testament professor. The book can be purchased on-line from Augsburg Fortress Books ( www.augsburgfortress.org). Copies can also be borrowed from the church office. Class meets on Sundays at 10:10 in Room 1. July 4: “The Bible in Dialogue with Other Religions”
July 11: “The Bible in Interconfessional Dialogue”

July 25 through August: The Letter of James
Martyn Nickel will lead us in a study of this short but significant (and controversial!) letter. In the course of the study, Pastor Stephanie will lead a session on Martin Luther’s criticism of the Letter of James. The study will begin July 25 and run through August.
